Mission 2: Severnaya

Mission 2: Severnaya
Part ii: Bunker
A spy satellite has detected increased levels of activity at an old observatory complex near Severnaya (62.08n, 102.58e) in Russia. Other sources have confirmed the shipment of a large amount of computer hardware to that location, and an influx of skilled personnel.
007, I want you to infiltrate this base and find out what the devil's going on there. The satellite photographs reveal that there has been recent underground excavation. We'd like to know the exact nature and planned extent of the workings. By the way, this is a covert operation. You may have to neutralize the security, but try not to be too obvious about it.
You'll be doing some computer hacking on this mission, 007. I know you'd rather be cracking open a bottle of bubbly than cracking passwords, so I've taken the liberty of putting together a little gadget which will do the hard work for you. If you attach the data thief to their mainframe it should override any computer security measures and download the information we require.
Underground in Siberia, James? Some of us don't get further than the Northern Line.
Bunker is the fifth level of GoldenEye 007 and the last level of the second mission. Its small size makes it stand in contrast to the spacious Surface level prior. In fact Bunker 1 is the smallest level in terms of area, measuring about 42 x 71 meters. That said, I would also consider it the "densest" level in terms of the number of enemies to eliminate and objectives to complete.
The level is comprised of four to seven rooms, depending on how you wish to count them, a couple halls, and the interior of the ventilation tower. The most important room is the main control room. The level has a theme that it is under construction and that is seen in the exposed rock walls and unconnected light fixtures in some areas.
Bunker is well-guarded and loud gunfire will bring a squad of enemies down on you. The biggest threat may be the many different ways alarms can be activated. If an alarm goes off you will have to fight off infinite waves of Janus Special Forces who sport sunglasses, and, more concerningly, body armor.
Bunker begins right where Surface left off — the bottom of the ventilation tower. Be aware that you have two options: you can open the door in front of you, or you can turn around and go through a second door.
This is the view looking up the cooling tower.
If you straight you will enter this room with two Russian Soldiers. As soon as the guard on the right sees you, the one on the left will run for the alarm. Whichever one you go incapacitate first, make sure you act quickly.
The brown ammo crate contains rifle rounds. I recommend sticking with the Silenced PP7 so you do not draw unwanted attention.
▶ TIP:1 of 4 CCTV cameras that need to be destroyed can be seen through this door's window. A sneaky shot to the lens will dispatch it in one hit.
Stepping out into the hallway, you will encounter at least one Russian Soldier and possibly the guard in the black beret who walks a patrol path.
▶ TIP:The black beret guard carries the Security Keycard needed to open the telescoping doors in the main control room.
The hall in the previous screenshot leads to this short unfinished corridor.
Backtracking and looking the other way down the hall.
Turning left from the last image, you will find a hall with the computer room on the right and a room with ventilation equipment on the left. The computer room is locked until you eliminate the second patrolling guard and pick up his Computer Room Keycard.
This is the ventilation room which has CCTV camera 2 of 4.
Going around the bend in the hall, you encounter CCTV camera 3 of 4.
The end of the hall has an unfinished area with three guards.
For now we'll skip by the computer room and head for the main control room.

The side room on the left has CCTV camera 4 of 4. Shoot it to complete Objective A.
Turning around, we see the Main Video Screen comprised of one large screen and 20 smaller screens flanking it. Equip the Camera gadget from the Pause Menu, face the screens, and press Z to complete Objective E.
The other side room is this unfinished kitchen. You will confront a Russian Commandant in this room, one of only three in the game.
Back in the control room it is time to meet Boris the programmer and collect the GoldenEye Key off the desk.
▶ TIP:For newer players I recommend eliminating all guards in the level before initiating the interaction with Boris. It will make the rest of the level easier.
Point your weapon at Boris to command him to go to the computer room. Stick close to him or he will try to escape.
While Boris does his slow walk you can select the Key Analyzer from the Pause Menu, press Z to analyze the GoldenEye Key, then press Z again to toss the GoldenEye Key and complete Objective B.

At this point you want to equip the Datathief and press Z to download the data. After a moment you will complete Objective D.
