Prerelease Videos

1. Shoshinkai 1995

This is the earliest footage of Goldeneye 007 and was shown at the Shoshinkai (Nintendo Space World) 1995 trade show in Japan. The show, held November 22–24, showed attendees this mock-up gameplay. Up to this point in development the team had been focused on making the game engine so there was no real game to speak of. The camera simply runs along a spline and characters are scripted to play death animations. There is no weapon on screen. The gun barrel sequence is actually similar to final with the exception of Bond's shooting pose.

2. E3 1996 Promo

This video played at E3 1996 which was held May 16–18 in Los Angeles. The famous clip shows GoldenEye as an "on-rails" shooter as Bond ascends a lift in Silo and takes out a couple enemies. This is likely an entirely scripted sequence with no player input. It's not certain what plans the developers had for the elevator and it was entirely scrapped later in development.

3. Shoshinkai 1996

This short video was shown at the Shoshinkai (Nintendo Space World) 1996 trade show held November 22–24. It looks like the Pause Menu was working by this point. The movement up the stairs in Bunker 1 feels very fluid to the point it looks scripted. In Bunker 1 you can also see the screens using the Bond silhouette as a placeholder.

4. Promotional Trailer

The YouTube title says this trailer is from 1996, but it must actually by from 1997 because we see working multiplayer. This video includes rare prerelease footage of Dam and Runway as well as Sean Connery as a multiplayer character.

5. French N64 Promo

Great video that shows many differences from the final game starting at 24:06. In some clips we see the old KF7 Soviet model and in other clips the new one, so the clips must be from different builds of the game. Also interesting is the presence of footstep sounds although it is debated if those are actually in-game or just dubbed in.

6. Escape Video

Recording from a Polish video game show called Escape. Starting at 3:13 it shows a lot of the same clips as the video above but also some unique ones.

7. Walmart Kiosk Video

This video would have been shown at Walmart store kiosks. The quality is poor, but you can clearly see the four Bonds in the menu.

8. Debugging Tapes

This is a tape from GoldenEye's debugging stage where testers were tasked with breaking the game and finding other glitches. You can tell it's from late in development because the game uses the final KF7 model. The relevant parts to GoldenEye are at 1:37 and 6:43. First, a player locks up the game by spamming inputs in the Pause Menu. Second, a tester causes a crash probably by getting too many characters in one place. Third, there is a crash in a multiplayer match of unknown cause.

Skipping to 6:43 a tester finds a bug where the bow of Frigate does not load. Here GoldenEye could not load all the needed rooms at once. Part of the fix for this probably included locking the doors to bridge's wings.
