Unused Textures
This page is under construction.
GoldenEye 007 has 2,697 textures in its standard image bank and quite a few of them go unused. This page goes over all the ones I can identify. For some textures we know their intended use whilst others are a complete mystery. GoldenEye textures were tiny in order to fit into the Nintendo 64's meager four kilobyte texture cache. Textures on this page are scaled up for better viewing. Unlike models we do not have real file names for the textures. Thus these textures are titled by their preset number in the GoldenEye Setup Editor.
0011
No idea what this is supposed to be. Looks weird tough.
0104
Lower resolution version of the chainlink fence texture.
The used texture, 0105, seen below, has double the horizontal resolution which is probably why the developers favored it.
010F
No idea what this was meant for.
01C6
This light fixture was intended to be placed on the exterior of Depot's warehouses.
You can see this texture placed on the corners of the warehouses in Depot's mission profile picture.
02E4, 02E5
Mickey Mouse from Fantasia graffiti meant for Depot. For obvious legal reasons this one was pulled from the game.
The XBLA version of Depot shows exactly where this graffiti was meant to go. Mickey is behind the containers by the green warehouse where you begin the level. I'm guessing when levels for XBLA were made they used the original level source files which still contained this copyrighted mouse.
08BD
Alternate crosshair texture. There are no prerelease images or videos with this texture so we don't know to what extent it was ever used.
08C5, 08C9
These gun barrel opening images are never used.
096B, 096C
This "007" graffiti would be a good fit for Depot, but it is never used.
0614 - 0617
These are photos of developer Adrian Smith's head from different angles. He was going to have a guard head like the other developers. Smith left Rare before GoldenEye was completed so his head was cut from the game.
080D - 080F
These photos of a bearded man were intended for a guard head, but for unknown reasons the head didn't make it into the release. The man is not the admiral from the GoldenEye movie. (Source) It is most likely he is a plumber who visited the Rare campus.
